New in SAT

College Board recently introduced a few latest enhancements.

  • SAT is going completely digital from March 2023. The new digital format can be taken online from your home.
  • Registrations are now open for international students.

SAT stands for Scholastic Assessment Test and is one of the most common entrance tests for undergraduate courses. The test evaluates your written, verbal and mathematical skills.

SAT scores are usually accepted in the USA and Canada. Typically, students planning to study in these countries take the exam before university applications.

Currently, SAT costs ₹8,616 in India. The fee combines the registration fee (₹4,556) and the Non-US regional fee (₹4,059). SAT with essay costs ₹9,693

SAT has two sections:

  • Reading
  • Writing + Mathematics

The test is scored on a range of 400-1600, with each section scored on a scale of 400-800.

Many universities have waived off SAT scores. However, the number of SAT takers has risen significantly as SAT scores boost the value of your college application.

How is SAT Score Calculated?

SAT scores are derived from your raw scores. Raw scores are based on how many answers you get right. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The raw scores are then converted on a scale of 200-800.

SAT Score Validity

The good thing for SAT takers is that their SAT scores are valid for a lifetime. There is no expiration date. However, the College Board- the creators of SAT recommend using your scores within five years. After five years, your scores will be sent with a disclaimer that these scores are not the most accurate prediction of your academic potential.

You must also remember that SAT format was changed once in 2016, which most universities do not accept. SAT is also transitioning to a brand new digital version this year, so it’s essential to confirm with the universities if they accept old scores.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the validity period of SAT scores?

A. There is no validity period for SAT scores, meaning you can use the scores for a lifetime. However, using the scores within five years of the test date is highly recommended. Colleges won’t be able to judge your academic potential if your score is older than five years. You must also note that the formats keep changing, so it’s best to keep up with the newest version.

Q. What is SAT score for Harvard?

A. To get into Harvard University, you will need an SAT Score between 730 to 780 in Reading and Writing and 750-800 in Math. This requirement might change with the course you choose, so it’s best to confirm with the university about their minimum requirements before you apply.

Q. Is 1500 a good score on SAT?

A. Yes. The SAT score range is 800-1600. 1500 is quite close to the highest score on SAT, making it an excellent university score. Most universities look for a score of 1300 and above. However, some universities accept scores between 900-1300 as well. It all depends on the university and course you choose.
